Dr Gemma Taylor is an epidemiologist, behavioural scientist, and public health researcher with over 15 years of experience working across the NHS, academic, and private sectors. She is a Senior Lecturer in Public Health at the University of Bristol and a Reader in Statistics and Research Methods at the University of Bath. Her research focuses on addiction, mental health, causal inference, clinical trials, real-world healthcare data, and evidence synthesis. She is internationally recognised for her work demonstrating the mental health benefits of smoking cessation and for developing and evaluating smoking cessation interventions for people with mental health conditions.
Dr Taylor has published more than 70 peer-reviewed papers, secured over £4 million in funding as Principal Investigator, and contributed to more than £40 million of collaborative research funding. Her work has received numerous national and international awards, including the BMJ Research Paper of the Year Award and the Society for the Study of Addiction Impact Prize. She currently leads a programme investigating the potential of GLP-1 medicines, including semaglutide, as novel treatments for tobacco, alcohol, and other addictions.
